About the Program

Even the best organizations are highly stressful: individuals must cope with unprecedented amounts of information, intense pressure to succeed, and unrelenting demands from colleagues, subordinates, suppliers, and customers. Stressful situations are ubiquitous in the modern workplace – and that’s not counting the life stresses that people are bringing to work. When people can’t manage stress, they burn out – increasing turnover, ruining morale, disrupting productivity, reducing efficiency and effectiveness, and possibly even raising workers’ compensation costs. By one estimate, workplace stress costs U.S. businesses over $300 billion per year in absenteeism, lost productivity, and higher healthcare costs.

Stress Management

To build a higher-performance organization, give individuals the stress management techniques, tools, and insights they need to manage stress. CME’s best-in-class stress management training offers a comprehensive, proven blueprint for helping valued employees reduce stress and manage stressful situations, both in their work life and beyond. Built around CME’s exclusive Personal Stress Assessment Inventory™, it helps individuals customize specific workplace stress management techniques and skills most likely to work for them.

How CME’s Stress Management Training delivers value in your organization:

This program teaches workplace stress management techniques that can reduce absenteeism, turnover, and healthcare costs, and help your valued people:

  • Serve and delight customers more consistently, even in difficult situations
  • Collaborate with team members to execute on projects more effectively
  • Manage high-pressure deadlines and demands
  • Avoid burnout – and the disengagement and productivity collapse associated with it

And much more

CME’s Managing Stress Program introduces a complete framework for identifying the causes and symptoms of stress in life and work, and learning to manage stress more effectively. Working with CME’s exclusive Personal Stress Assessment Inventory™, stress management training participants discover personal insights about what triggers stress for them, how they react to it, and how to calm themselves and move forward productively. They learn proven stress management techniques and build personalized strategies for coping with stressful situations of all kinds.

Significant time is spent on prioritization, organization, planning, juggling priorities, delegation, and other techniques for reducing stress when that’s possible — and constructively managing stress when it can’t be reduced. Then, building on what they’ve already learned, stress management training participants:

  • Explore opportunities to increase personal resilience
  • Share ideas for addressing their own unique workplace stresses
  • Build individual action plans for reducing stress
  • Identify the resources they need to implement those plans.

Participants Will:

  • Master guiding principles for workplace stress management
  • Create personal visions that help them put stressors in perspective and work towards a better life
  • Learn what stress is, what causes it, and how to recognize it sooner to manage it more successfully
  • Build and interpret their own personal stress profiles, gaining powerful insight for reducing immediate and long-term stress
  • Discover proven methods for becoming more resilient
  • Develop practical strategies and action plans for addressing their own workplace stresses

A Closer Look at the Program

In four hours of focused stress management training, participants gain deeper insight into the nature and causes of workplace stress, discover practical techniques for managing stress more productively, learn to recognize and address signs of rising stress, make long-term plans for reducing stress and improving wellness, and build individual action plans for handling their own specific workplace stressors.

Part I: Guiding Principles

Participants explore eight core principles underlying effective workplace stress management:

  • Seek support where you need it, but take charge of your own well-being
  • Make conscious choices, but take time for self-examination and commit to positive changes
  • Design your life for greater physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual balance
  • Pay attention to what your body tells you
  • Put things in proper perspective
  • View transitions and disruptive change as times for self-nurturing
  • Let go of regrets, resentments, and losses
  • Identify your personal vision and go for it

Part II: Personal Vision

Participants create personal visions that help them manage competing claims for attention, put obstacles in perspective, attract allies, and stay focused and energetic in the face of stressful situations.

Part III: Benefits of Managing Stress

Participants consider what stress management training can do for them, and why/when stress management skills can help them in their own lives and careers.

Part IV: What Is Stress?

Participants learn what stress actually is. They consider:

  • Stress triggers
  • How perceptions of stress are shaped by old beliefs and expectations
  • Four physical stress responses, why they occur, and how to recognize them

Building on these concepts, participants learn how to recognize signs of stress more quickly, so they can act sooner to reduce or manage it.

Part V: Heightening Awareness of Your Stress Signals

Participants learn how to complete a Daily Stress Awareness Log that helps them recognize and anticipate patterns of increased stress in their day-to-day lives. As they become more aware of stress building in their bodies, they learn breathing techniques for controlling, managing, and reducing it.

Part VI: Your Stress Management Self-Assessment

Each participant takes the 30-45 minute Personal Stress Assessment Inventory™ (PSAI), leading to a comprehensive personal stress profile, including their own sources of stress, and the magnitude of the stressors they’re experiencing. Next, they will interpret their PSAI scores, gaining insight to inform their next steps towards wellness, productivity, and better relationships.

Part VII: Resilience

Building on what they’ve learned about themselves, participants learn physical exercises and techniques for building personal support networks to become more resilient when stressful situations arise.

Part VIII: Developing a Stress Management Strategy

Working in small groups, participants describe recurring or escalating stressful situations they encounter, and guide each other based on all they’ve learned.

Part IX: Stress Management Action Options

Participants build individual workplace stress management plans for themselves, including both actions to take and resources they’ll need.
