Hiring  is one of the most critical decisions most managers will  make. Poor hires lead to lost time, reduced productivity, damaged worker  morale, and wasted resources. Does successful hiring require a crystal ball?  No. Conducting an effective interview can make a powerful difference in helping  managers choose the right applicant for any job. This module teaches managers  and supervisors how to accurately and effectively  assess candidates during interviews so they make the right hire the first time.

Program Description

Participants will write job descriptions that include experience, education, and interpersonal qualities. They will learn how to seek evidence  that an interviewee can do the job, and that his or her behavior and character will  fit well into the organization. Participants will also learn best practices for  preparing and conducting interviews, including proven strategies for “getting  below the surface” on résumés to uncover potential “red flags.” Interview-related  legal issues and restrictions will be discussed, as will appropriate post-interview  follow-up. Participants will conclude with practice interviews. They will receive  expert feedback, and then fill out a “balance sheet” weighing the “pros” and  “cons” of the candidate they have interviewed.
